Christmas in Seattle
A few days after Christmas we traveled to Washington to stay with my parents for a week. It is so much fun to have Christmas with both families, it draws the magic out a little longer and is such a blessing to be able to spend time with each family for the holidays.

Yaquina Head
The day after Christmas Cory's cousin and his family came over to the coast and we spent the afternoon playing on the beach and touring the lighthouse. Here are the 4 oldest at the door of the lighthouse.
Addy was too little to go in so I took Hannah and Addy stayed outside with dad and Garrett and watched the water.
Hannah climbing the stairs...I can't remember how many there are but there are a lot. She thought it was great while I followed and almost had a heart attack thinking about what would happen if she fell (that all too fond memory of my brother falling from a second story window while I sat only feet away and couldn't catch him = fear of heights and children falling from them).
At the top we even got to see the light going on and off, very cool.
On the way back down, which was worse then going up, we stopped at the window to watch the water for a minute...the ocean was really rough and the wind was blowing pretty good which made for some great waves.
Garrett above not so fond of the wind...but give him some shelter by the rocks and a and endless number of rocks to taste and you get a very happy and content baby.

Merry Christmas 2009. Somehow we didn't get any pictures of anyone else in attendance but Cory's entire family was together on Christmas day and we had so much fun and lots and lots of presents to open. The kids were very patient considering we didn't even start opening presents until 11:00 in the morning, but it made the excitement last a little longer.
Garrett enjoyed the toys for a while but then he resorted to the paper, which is way more fun anyway!

Pre-Christmas Activities
A week in Newport with Mimi and Grandpa started off with lots of playing at home while mom and dad got some shopping done. On Tuesday evening we made gingerbread houses. The girls each got their own graham cracker house to decorate, which they thought was great. 
Hannah was so meticulous with her candy and making patterns and Addy was get as much candy as you can everywhere.
Garrett just enjoyed hanging out and wants to walk so badly but mom really doesn't want him to walk just yet - he is getting too big way too fast!!!
On Wednesday we took a trip down the coast to Coos Bay to visit Curt and see his new house. This is one of the stops on the way that overlooks the ocean.

After having dinner with Curt we headed out to Shore Acres to see the lights and it was so amazing.
The girls were really excited about all of the moving lights that depicted sea animals.
We also got a chance to sing some Christmas carols, as well as have cookies and cider.
Before heading home we stopped by the fire house where some guy had set up this amazing Christmas village display. It was very fun to see all of the houses that he has collected over the years. This picture doesn't do it justice at all.
The girls are admiring the bay front scene. They could have stayed for hours.

We go away for Christmas every year to see our families. Last year we opted to skip the whole Christmas tree experience because we would be gone, I was pregnant and didn't want to deal with putting it up and taking it down. Now let me clarify - we get a real tree, Cory grew up working on the family Christmas tree farm and me being from Washington we always had a real tree. Every year though we get closer and closer to making the switch to fake, but as it now stands we still get a real one. Anyway, Cory really liked not spending the money and not having the hassle last year and so he thought we should skip this exciting - messy and frustrating - tradition again this year. With a lot of convincing from me and pleading from the girls we talked him into a little one that didn't cost a whole lot of money (we didn't mention that it would still be messy and he would still get frustrated trying to get it to stand straight). Needless to say here is the finished product...
The girls were so excited to decorate it and me being the perfectionist that I am struggled letting them put their ornaments where they wanted (I moved most of them when they weren't looking). Maybe next year I will be able to let go a little more.

Thanksgiving and the Polar Express
For Thanksgiving we went to Utah and spend a few days with my grandparents and my brother and his family. The best part of the trip was taking the kids on the Polar Express. The girls were so excited and asked numerous times leading up to the trip, "How many more days until we get to go on the train." 
They got to met Mrs. Claus before we got on the train.

All Aboard....Next stop - The North Pole!!!
Grandma and Grandpa got the warmest seats on the train - right in front of the real wood burning stove. We were toasty warm.
Kale, Michele and baby Hayden adopted Addy to share their seat for the ride. 
Our camera ran out of memory before Santa came aboard but the kids each got to talk with Santa and then he gave them each a bell from his reindeer sleigh. What a memory!!!
As for the rest of the trip - as you may recall our camera had no memory therefore we have now pictures - but we enjoyed a big Thanksgiving celebration that my grandparents graciously hosted with Cory's family. It was so much fun to get everyone together. We then had the opportunity to spend some time with Cory's family and see his grandpa and extended family that live in Utah. We also got some shopping done, Cory took his sister to the BYU football game against Utah...thanks to some friends who couldn't use their tickets. We also enjoyed a night out at the Mayan restaurant and then a trip to see the lights at temple square. We are so grateful to have family to share these special holidays with.
